How to Receive Allowances and Payments Safely
Receiving financial support is a legitimate and normal part of sugar dating. Here's how to do it safely and sensibly.
Cash is still king for discretion
Cash leaves no paper trail and is the most discreet form of payment. If discretion is a priority, suggesting cash for initial meetings is perfectly reasonable. However, it requires trust — never accept large cash amounts from someone you've only just met.
Bank transfers: use a dedicated account
If you receive bank transfers, consider opening a separate account specifically for arrangement-related income. This keeps it separate from your main finances and simplifies any tax considerations.
Digital wallets
Services like PayPal, Wise, or Revolut can be used with pseudonymous account names, providing some additional discretion. However, these services have their own verification requirements.
Gift cards and experiences
Many Providers prefer to give gifts, experiences, or gift cards rather than direct cash. These are completely legitimate forms of support. Agree on the type of arrangement upfront so there are no surprises.
Never give your bank details upfront
No legitimate Provider needs your account details before an arrangement is established. Anyone asking for your sort code, account number, or card details early in a conversation is a risk.
Be aware of "overpayment" scams
A classic scam: the "Provider" sends more than agreed (via a fraudulent transfer), then asks you to return the excess. The original transfer bounces; you're out the "returned" money. Never return overpayments before the original payment has fully cleared.
Keep records
A simple note of what was agreed, when, and what was received protects you if any dispute arises.
